From the Editor: Millie and I had a great time in Norway again this year. We had 50 others trav-eling with us. Sydney Roppe did another excellent job of guiding us along the way. We have included 5 stories or impressions of the trip – by Millie pg 2, Laura & Dick Johnson pg 4, Alene Greenland pg 5, Janet Hoveland pg 6, and Jean Searles pg 9. We may have more in the next issue. You will find a group picture on pg 8 of all of us on the trip. 26 people had roots in Aurland, Norway. Charting all of them showed how many were “cousins”. There is a short summary on pg 10.
We have the ancestor chart for Rognald J. Ohnstad on pg 11 and a picture on pg 5. He was an ances-tor to many of us that traveled to Norway as you can see by the chart. Jerome Ram-stad’s language lesson is on pg 12. Look for Web sites on pg 14 along with the Heri-tage tour for 2002. Gordon Eddy’s “Out on the Black Hammer" starts on pg 15.
We have included an index for the entire year (pg 18). It’s a good idea to mark it with a tab so you can find it easily in your notebook.
We have included an order form for Volume III and an envelope for your convenience. Please send it back soon so we can get our records up to date in time for February’s issue to be sent out by 2/1. Ann Forsman, Editor

From the editor: Here it is time for our 4th issue this year. I don’t know where the time has gone. But it sure flies when we are busy and enjoying ourselves.
Millie and I along with 37 others enjoyed a wonderful trip to Norway on the Sognefjord Heritage tour with Brekke tours this summer. We have several articles that are written by Carol Edwards, Bruce Benson, and Dee Bumpers about some very special times on the trip starting on page 2. Due to space crunching, see Grace Tauring’s story on page 16. We also have a group picture of the Nedberge trip on page 5 and a group picture of the Sognefjord Heritage Tour participants on page 7. The Beacon printed a couple stories about the trip. See them on page 6. The Sogn Avis newspaper printed a story about our hiking trip to Nedberge. Dee Bumpers has translated it from Norwegian. See page 8.
For “Connecting cousins,” we have a genealogy chart for Gjert Gjertsen Skajem sent to us by Marlys Mossestad Lietzow on page 9.
Many of you may have been to Alexandria, MN to see the Kennsington Runestone. Arne Brekke attended a conference on the authenticity of the Runestone in St. Paul and has written some of the highlights of that conference starting on page 10.
We have some obituaries on page 12 and 13. Then look for Gordon Eddy’s interesting story about people in “Out on the Black Hammer” starting on page 14, with some pictures on page 16.
For our new commentary called “Sharing Memories of the past”, we have an article by sisters, Myrtle Nord and Lydia Witcher on page 17. We are hoping more of you will consider writing for this section and we will possibly be calling you.
On the back page you will find the Index for the entire year.
